Water and Sanitary Sewers
Maintenance of the Water and Sanitary Sewers is completed under contract by the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA).
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula currently has several water systems:
and one Sanitary Sewer/Wastewater Treatment Plant in Wiarton.
FROZEN WATER UPDATE: March 27, 2015 - The Public Works Department asks that the residents who have been asked to run their water in 2015 to prevent frozen lines, continue to run their water until the end of April 2015. Even though the temperature has started getting warmer, there are still many water services that are frozen. This includes residents of Berford Street, Gould Street, Division Street, Taylor Street, and William Street, as well as several other residents in the Town that the Public Works Department has instructed to run their water. The water stream should be at least the size of a pencil (3/8" to 1/2"); any less flow may not be enough to keep the water from freezing.
Notice to Residents of Division Street, Taylor Street, and William Street - March 3, 2015
Notice to Residents of Berford Street and Gould Street - February 25, 2015
Due to the unusually cold weather, residents on municipal water systems have experienced frozen water lines. So far the majority of the issues have been on private property, quite often right where the water service enters the building. Residents are encouraged to provide adequate heat to the area where the water service enters the building. Residents should remember that the water service from the curb to the home, and inside the home, is the responsibility of the property owner. Frozen pipes can remain a threat even when the temperature warms up due to the frost deep in the ground.
