Press Release 20 January 15, 2021 at 11:00 am
Declared Provincial Emergency
The Province of Ontario declared an emergency effective January 14 at 12:01 am.
We are asked to stay home and only venture out for essentials like groceries and medication. Essential workers will continue to care for the needs of Ontarians during this emergency. Outdoor gatherings are limited to five (5) people and short-term rentals are prohibited unless the rental is for a minimum of 14 days or if renters have absolutely nowhere else to go (with proof). Please, we urge you to consider the health & safety of our community and do not rent your cottage, home or cabin during this critical time.
Our municipal office is closed to the public but curbside pickup and drop off can be arranged. Our Building Division will be closed on Mondays and Financial Services will be closed on Wednesdays. Staff are working extended hours to counter the closures so please call if you require our services.
The Wiarton Arena, Sauble Beach Community Centre and both Fire Halls will be closed to the public. Curbside garbage and recycling collection, landfill access, road maintenance and snow clearing will continue as will Council meetings however, public attendance remains limited, and virtual meetings are being considered.
Staying home doesn’t mean staying inside. We encourage you to get fresh air and exercise. Reach out to family and friends by phone or virtually. If you live alone, you can attach yourself exclusively to one person or one family.
As of this writing, we have no COVID cases in SBP. This is in large part due to our efforts as a community to keep this virus at bay. Please do not let up. We are strong and we must continue to work together.
Be kind to one another and stay safe,
Janice Jackson, Mayor
Town of South Bruce Peninsula
