Since April of 2021, the Bannister Park baseball diamond in Sauble Beach was utilized as a “temporary” dog park. The temporary dog park was a huge success and a great use of a ball diamond that was not utilized for its intended purpose, because of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.
With recreational activities returning to normal, minor baseball and a Sauble Beach women's baseball team will be using the ball diamond most, if not every day for its intended purpose this summer. As such, the Town will be ending the use of the ball diamond as a temporary dog park on May 24th, 2022. Once baseball season wraps up this fall, the Town will again utilize the ball diamond as a temporary dog park.
As the temporary use of the dog park was an overwhelming success, Council will discuss the need for a permanent dog park in Sauble Beach at an upcoming council meeting. Items such as location, amenities, cost and fund-raising opportunities will be considered, with the hope that a dog park would be operational in early 2023.
Until a dog park is established in Sauble Beach, dog owners still have access to the Town’s other two dog parks, the Old Oliphant Ball Diamond and Tayja's Doggy Park located at the Dan Davidson ball diamond in Wiarton.
The Town would like to thank the users of the temporary dog park in Sauble Beach for their overwhelming support of the facility and the outstanding care they took to keep the ball diamond spotless.
Please look for additional information on the Town's website and Facebook page in the near future pertaining to a permanent dog park project for Sauble Beach.
