The Town of South Bruce Peninsula is pleased to announce that the provincial government has awarded $5,927,508 through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program – Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS) to support the Wiarton Wastewater Diversion and New Pumping Station Project.
Mayor Jay Kirkland expressed his gratitude, saying, “We sincerely thank the Province for this significant investment in our community. This funding allows us to move forward with a critical infrastructure project that supports sustainable growth and enables additional housing opportunities in Wiarton.”
The project includes the construction of a new wastewater pumping station and associated sewer infrastructure to divert flow from the existing Taylor Street pumping station, which has been operating at its intended capacity. Without available capacity at the existing pumping station, the Town has not been able to support servicing for any significant development.
This investment will help ensure the town’s wastewater infrastructure can accommodate future housing growth, support existing businesses, and attract long-term economic development. South Bruce Peninsula continues to plan for a range of housing options to meet the needs of current and future residents, in alignment with the Housing Forecast to 2046.
“Investments like this are essential to building complete, resilient communities and positioning South Bruce Peninsula for long-term success,” added Mayor Kirkland.
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula looks forward to continuing to work with the Province to advance infrastructure projects that enhance community growth and quality of life.
