Message from Mayor Janice Jackson
You have a place in our community.
Whether you are looking to explore our extraordinary area to access recreational opportunities, or to move here and possibly set up your own business, you can find your “place” in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.
Town’s like ours work, because of the unique contributions of so many people and organizations that care about our community. Having an opportunity to live in such a pristine and beautiful environment carefully stewarded by others before us, gives you a sense of responsibility to “pay it forward”. By pitching in and doing what it takes, makes our community the best that it can be. That’s what keeps driving me and our Town Council forward along with so many incredible civic-minded individuals and groups in our area.
As you find your sense of “place” in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula, we also hope that you will find that “sweet spot” in “getting and giving” that makes life on the Bruce so rich for us all.
Please visit us often, or better yet, make our beautiful community your home.
All the best
Janice
Your council
Mayor Janice Jackson |
Mayor Jackson is very proud of her roots in South Bruce Peninsula which stretch back to the mid 1800’s when her great, great grandparents John & Ann Jackson and their eight children had farms along Spring Creek Rd. in Hepworth. The Jackson family homestead and barn is now a popular B&B alongside what is currently the Surebid Auction/Wedding Hall. Mayor Jackson's great grandparents Edward & Elizabeth Jackson ran a sawmill across the road from SureBid. The Spring Creek Cemetery was created from a piece of their property when their son Sydney passed at an early age. In 1907 Edward & Elizabeth carted lumber from their sawmill to build their family cottage in Sauble Beach which Janice purchased from a Cousin in 1999 and converted to her permanent home. Mayor Jackson was first elected to Council in 2010 before being elected Mayor in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. She’s in her second term on Bruce County Council which is comprised of all eight Bruce County Mayors. Mayor Jackson Chaired the Bruce County Museum Committee for four years and now Chairs the Bruce County Paramedic Committee and the SBP Police Services Board. She also sits on the Nuclear Industry Regional Advisory Committee, the Emergency Management Committee, the Municipal Emergency Control Group and the Bruce County Economic Development & Innovation Committee. The form and any material that you will be showing Council (ie. a PowerPoint presentation, flyers, brochures, books, pictures, etc.) must be given to the Town Clerk no later than Wednesday at noon before the Council meeting. There are reasons why you may not be able to speak to Council as a delegation. These are part of the Procedural By-Law and include:

When a member of Council, a Committee of Council and a Local Board declares a pecuniary interest at a meeting, the member must complete a written statement and file the statement with the Clerk. The Clerk must keep a registry which is available to the public. |
Ombudsman |
The Ombudsman investigates complaints about members of Council, Committees of Council and Local Boards. The complaints must be about closed versus open meetings or if you have complained to us and we haven't followed our complaint process. If the Ombudsman issues a report after an investigation, it must be made public. |
Integrity Commissioner |
The Integrity Commissioner investigates complaints against members of Council, Committees of Council and Local Boards. The complaints must be about the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act or code of conduct breaches. The Integrity Commissioner also gives advice to members and provides education to members and the public.
