About the Award
Do you know an individual, organization or religious affiliation who has contributed to heritage in South Bruce Peninsula? Consider making a nomination for the South Bruce Peninsula Heritage Award.
A call for nominations takes place each year in January. Council reviews the applications and chooses who wins the award. Winners are recognized at the annual Volunteer Dinner or by other means if we aren't able to hold the Volunteer Dinner.
No more than two awards are given each year and once received, the award can't be received again for three years.
When considering making a nomination, please review the policy to make sure that you understand the award criteria.
Complete the nomination form. If you are unable to print the form, call us and we can arrange to mail a form to you or you can pick up a form at Town Hall.
Make sure that the person/organization/business/religious affiliation you are nominating signs the nomination form. The person submitting the nomination must also sign the form.
Make sure to submit the completed nomination forms by the date and time outlined in the call for nominations.

2024 South Bruce Peninsula Heritage Award Winner - Wiarton Propeller Club |
The call for nominations was issued on January 3, 2024. We received one nomination for 2024. The Wiarton & District Chamber of Commerce nominated the Wiarton Propeller Club. Council decided to give the 2024 award to the Wiarton Propeller Club.
The Wiarton Propeller Club was established in 1949 by a group of sailors who wanted their own social organization. They originally met in other locations in Wiarton and built a clubhouse in its current location in 1963. The land to build the clubhouse was donated by Captain and Mrs. Harold Miller. The mortgage was held by Captain and Mrs. Coleman from Shallow Lake.
Over the years, the Wiarton Propeller Club has been a place where the community can meet, hold celebrations and events. As legislation has changed, the building has undergone upgrades which have been carefully implemented to make sure that the original character of the building is maintained. Not only does the building have heritage value, the organization itself is historically significant as an example of longevity and the promotion of pride in the community. The Wiarton Propeller Club now has a page on their website dedicated to heritage memories. The page is being updated by the Club’s heritage committee and includes highlights of the marine heritage of our area.
Thank you to the Wiarton Propeller Club for your dedication to our community and ongoing efforts to provide a quality, historical meeting space and for educating the community about marine heritage.
