Skating and Hockey

From beginning of October to the end of March, the Wiarton & District Community Centre runs a variety of skating programs in the arena. These include hockey leagues, figure skating programs, public skating and shinny hockey.

Ice Rentals

To rent the ice for private parties and functions, contact the Parks and Recreation Dept, 519-534-1400 Ext 136.

Ice time is available between October and March of each year. Contact the parks and recreation department to put in a request for ice availability. 

Special rates are available for skating between December 15th and January 15th. 

Public Skating

Skating for individuals and families at the Wiarton Arena, 526 Taylor Street, Wiarton. Dates and times subject to change.

To sponsor a public skate, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department or call 519-534-1400X136.

Shinny 2025/2026

Please subscribe to our page to be updated when the 2025/2026 shinny schedule is available. 

Shinny drop-in $5 cash only. 10-shinny skate pass for $45, available at Town Hall

Tuesdays from 4pm to 4:50pm -Ages 14-17 

Thursdays from 4pm to 4:50pm -Ages 10-13

Required equipment: minimum of CSA approved hockey helmet with cage, hockey gloves, skates, stick.

-Full hockey equipment is recommended.

Parent and Tot Skate

Figure Skate -Open Practice Time

Please subscribe to our page to be updated when the 2025/2026 figure skating schedule is available. 

Dedicated skate for figure skaters wanting to practice their skills. No coaching or instructing permitted during this skate. 

$5 drop-in fee, cash only

Admission

2025-2026 Rates 

Public Skating

  • $3.00 per person
  • $10.00 per immediate family
  • CASH ONLY
  • Skating Passes available for purchase at Town Hall. $25 for 10 skates (individual pass) or $85 for 10 skates (family pass-immediate family members only). 
  • Youth Yearly Skate Passes, $50 -valid for public skate only from October 2024 to March 2025. Up to age 17. Passes available for purchase at Town Hall.

Shinny

  • $5 per person for Shinny (on specified days only, please check the schedule)
  • CASH ONLY
  • Shinny Passes available for purchase at Town Hall (315 George St, Wiarton) $45 for 10 skates

*Fees subject to change according to current Town of South Bruce Peninsula Fee By-Law in effect every January 1st. 

Rules of Conduct on Ice Surface

  • All participants must wear skates while on the ice
  • No food or drink
  • No foul language, inappropriate behaviour, horseplay, tag, racing, games, rough play, etc.
  • No throwing snow
  • Skate on as fast as the general flow of skaters
  • Skate with the direction of all skaters
  • No use of headsets, cell phones or hand-held electronic devices
  • No carrying of children is permitted
  • No balls, pucks, chairs, pylons, sticks or any other item which might interfere with the safety of any skater on the ice
  • The middle of the ice surface is reserved for children and less confident skaters
  • Approved skate aids are permitted in the centre ice area only
  • It is recommended that all skaters wear CSA approved helmets
  • Wheelchairs & children in strollers are permitted with the accompaniment of a responsible person age 16 or older with skates on
  • Wheelchair wheels must be cleaned of sand & salt prior to entering the ice surface
  • CSA approved helmets are required for wheelchair occupants
  • Wheelchair users are asked to use the perimeter of the ice closest to the boards
  • Patrons must leave ice surface when ice surfacing doors open
  • Do not proceed onto the ice surface until the ice resurfacer is off the ice and the gates are closed
  • Report all accidents or injuries to staff immediately
  • Respect staff at all times.  Listen to and follow staff's instructions.
  • Staff may ask patrons to leave if rules are not adhered to

Sponsored Skates

Help children and families stay active and enjoy their time off from school by sponsoring a public skate. For more information on how you or your business could become a sponsor, please contact our parks and recreation for more information. 

Price per Hour: Dec 15 -January 15 (2024 Fee By-Law)
$65.00 Monday-Friday 1pm-2pm, $105 Monday-Friday 5-6pm or Weekend skates

Regular Price Per Hour: $80 Monday-Friday 1-2pm, $120 Monday-Friday 5-6pm or Weekend skates

  • advertising on our website / Facebook Page recognizing you as a sponsor
  • opportunity for you to have a table at the sponsored skate event to display your information
