Swimming at Bluewater Park Pool

The Bluewater Park Pool is an outdoor pool that is open seasonally, July to end of August. The pool is officially closed for the season. Thank you to everyone who attended the Bluewater Park Pool during the season and all the sponsors who supported our community with free open swims this season, and staff for another great season!

Our priority is to ensure everyone's health and safety. The pool will continue to offer lessons and public swims with continued safety protocols in place. The pool will follow guidelines and health precautions as set out by Public Health, the Government of Ontario, and the Lifesaving Society. 
Please note: The Bluewater Park Pool may be closed at any time due to inclement weather or maintenance at the discretion of the staff. Please call the pool at 519-534-0511 if you are unsure. 
Registrations for 2024 classes opens on May 13. Please subscribe to this page to be updated when changes occur.  Please click on the links associated with the class you are interested in to be transferred to the registration page and to complete your registration. 
Registration is also available at Town Hall with cash, debit or cheque. Please email us if you would like to pay in person so we ensure we are available to assist you.

Group Lessons

Lifesaving Society Lessons are taught by the qualified swimming instructors.  Review the information below to determine the best level to register your child.  Staff will assist you if you are not sure which level to register in. Instructors may be able to do a swim test to determine the level to register in. Full descriptions and additional swim levels can be found directly through the Lifesaving Society website. 

Registration for lessons are on a first come, first served basis. Registration is available online through the links provided.

Parent & Tot 1 and 2: 4 months - 2 years

Parent/caregiver (13+ years of age and older) are required to enter the water with their child.
With the caregiver, the child will explore the water through buoyancy, movement skills, assisted front and back floats, introduction to PFD’s and assisted entries. Learn how to help your child play in the water with comfort and confidence.

Parent & Tot 3: 2-3 years

Parent/caregiver (13+ years of age and older) are required to enter the water with their child.
With the caregiver, the child will have fun jumping into the water with assistance. They learn to hold their breath and open their eyes under water. Kicking on front and back provide the building blocks for orientation and stroke development.

Preschool 1: 3-5 years

Parent/caregiver (13+ years of age and older) is required to be present on deck during lesson.
Preschoolers develop a foundation of water skills with the instructors. Swimmers jump into chest-deep water assisted. Floating on front and back, and back glides with assistance for 3 seconds. Shallow water movement wearing a PFD.

Preschool 2: 3-5 years

Parent/caregiver (13+ years of age and older) is required to be present on deck during lesson.
Preschoolers jump into chest-deep water and get in and get out wearing a PFD. They submerge and exhale under water. They glide on front and back 3 seconds and with a buoyant aid will flutter kick on back 5 meters.

Preschool 3: 3-5 years

Parent/caregiver (13+ years of age and older) is required to be present on deck during lesson.
Preschoolers try both a jump and a side roll into deep water while wearing a PFD. They recover objects from the bottom in waist-deep water. They work on kicking and gliding through the water on front and back unassisted.

Preschool 4: 3-5 years

Parent/caregiver (13+ years of age and older) is required to be present on deck during lesson.
Preschoolers learn independent jumps into deep water and exit. They open their eyes under water and recover objects from chest-deep water. Front crawl is introduced at this level and for 2-3 meters unassisted.

Preschool 5: 3-5 years

Parent/caregiver (13+ years of age and older)  is required to be present on deck during lesson.
Preschoolers build on deep water skills by demonstrating a forward roll entry with a PFD. They develop endurance by holding their breath under water for up to 10 seconds. Interval training and whip kick is introduced at this level. Fitness swim 10-12 meters.

Swimmer 1: 6+ years

Beginners become comfortable jumping into water with and without a personal flotation device. They open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath underwater. They work on floats, glides and kicking on front and back.

Swimmer 2: 6+ years

Advanced beginners jump into deeper water and become comfortable falling sideways into the water wearing a personal flotation device. Swimmers support themselves at the surface without an aid and be introduced to flutter kick interval training

Swimmer 3: 6+ years

Junior swimmers develop front and back crawl strokes and explore whip kick in a vertical position. Swimmers tread water for up to 30 seconds and learn to transition from front to back flutter kick.

Swimmer 4: 6+ years

Intermediate swimmers work towards standing dives into deep water. They improve the front crawl, back crawl and whip kick. Swimmers are introduced to a 5-meter underwater swim.

Swimmer 5: 6+ years

Swimmers master shallow dive into deep water and perform in-water back somersaults. They achieve the Canadian Swim to Survive Standard: roll into deep water, tread 1 minute and swim 50 meters. Swimmers continue to develop front and back crawl while breaststroke skills are introduced.

Swimmer 6: 6+ years

Intermediate swimmers increase efficiency in front crawl, back crawl, and work to develop breaststroke skills. They are introduced to stride entries, eggbeater kick and scissor kick. They'll develop strength and power in head-up breaststroke sprints over 25 m.

Bronze Star

Bronze Star is the pre-Bronze Medallion training standard and excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Participants work on problem solving, decision making skills and develop water smart confidence. They learn CPR and the lifesaving skills needed to be their own personal lifeguard. Pre-requisite: Able to swim 100 meters, recommended 10 years of age. This award is a definite asset for those who have not reached the minimum age for Bronze Medallion.

Bronze Medallion

Bronze Medallion develops physical fitness, decision-making and judgement skills for water rescue. Spinal injury management techniques are also covered. Minimum pre-requisite: 13 years of age or completed Bronze Star.

Bronze Cross

Bronze Cross teaches the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding, the principles of emergency procedures, teamwork and the use of special equipment.  Spinal injury management techniques are also covered. Minimum pre-requisite: Must have completed Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid/CPR-B.

Private and Semi Private Lessons

Private and semi private classes occur in the pool at the same time as other classes run. 
Adult Private Lessons (45 mins)
One student per one instructor. All levels welcome. 
Fee: $25.00
Child Private Lessons (45 mins)
One student per one instructor. All levels welcome.
Fee: $35.00
Child Semi Private Lessons (45 mins)
Minimum two students, maximum three students. All students must be at or near the same level of swimming. 
Fee: $25.00/person

Public Swimming

 Each session starts on the hour. All swimmers will have to leave the pool and deck at 10 minutes to the hour for staff to clean and perform safety checks. Payment will be required for re-entry.

 Open/Lane Swim

What to expect: One lane for fast swimming. Swimmers encouraged to swim up and back through the lane. Be aware of your space in the lane an orientation of others.  Please allow others to pass.
The rest of the pool is open for casual swimming.

What to expect: pool is reserved for lane swimming only.

 Sensory Swim

What to expect: Steps into the pool, and no lanes. This is designed to be a quiet, relaxed swim time. No splashing permitted.

 Family Fun Swim

What to expect: Its Sunday Funday! All pool toys will be in the pool with music. No lanes.

No pre-registration required. 
Number of swimmers in the pool will be in accordance with Public Health guidelines and Provincial legislation.
Swim sessions start on the hour and last 50 minutes.

Individual, per visit: $4.00- Payment upon entry. Cash only.
Individual, per week: $15.00- Option to pay cash upon entry, or debit at Town Hall
Individual, per season: $80.00- Option to pay cash upon entry, or debit at Town Hall

Fitness

Aquafit 

Join in for a fitness class in the pool using various arm movements and patterns. Classes are 50 mins. 

$8.00/class, no pre-registration required, payment upon entry, cash only. Swim passes do not apply to Aquafit classes.
Schedule

Mondays 7pm to 8pm
Tuesdays 12pm to 1pm
Wednesdays 7pm to 8pm
Thursday 12pm to 1pm
Fridays 7pm to 8pm 
There is no Aquafit class on Monday August 5th. 

Pool Admission Requirements, Rules and Regulations

Pool Admission Standard is a provincial law that pools must follow.

  • Pool Admission Standards assist lifeguards in maintaining adequate surveillance over the whereabouts and activities of young bathers while they are inside the pool enclosure.

  • Children 7 years of age and under must be directly supervised (within arm's reach) of a responsible person 15 years of age or older at all times regardless of swimming ability. The ratio of swimmers to guardians for this age group is 2:1.

  • Children 8 and 9 years of age who are non-swimmers must be accompanied in the water by a parent, guardian or group leader who is at least 15 years of age and responsible for their direct supervision.

  • The ratio of non-swimmers to parent or guardian may be a maximum of 4 bathers to 1 (4:1).

  • The ratio of non-swimmers to parent or guardian may be increased to a maximum of 8 bathers to 1 (8:1), if Lifejackets are worn by all non-swimmers and all participants stay in the shallow end.

  • To swim without direct supervision (within arm's reach) you must successfully complete the Facility Swim Test.

  • Individuals with serious medical conditions, especially seizure disorders, must be accompanied by a person knowledgeable of their condition and directly responsible for their supervision children 7 years of age and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 16 years of age and is responsible for their direct supervision.

  • We encourage all swimmers to swim with a buddy.

  • In order to use the deep-end, an individual must be classified as a swimmer by a lifeguard, be a minimum of 8 years old and must be able to completely swim two widths of the pool and surface support for one minute.

Arriving and Leaving the Pool

  • Enter the pool through the front entrance and check in with staff prior to entering the changerooms.

  • If you or anyone in your household have symptoms for COVID-19, we ask that you do not come to the pool. 

  • Hand sanitizer will be provided.

  • Showers are required prior to entering the pool.

  • No food or drink is permitted on the deck.  Only water is permitted in a plastic, reusable container.

  • Shower to rinse off following your program or shower at home. 

Changerooms, Personal Belongings, Viewing Area

  • Bring all belongings onto the pool deck and leave in the designated areas.

  • Washrooms are available for use.

  • Limited space is available at the viewing area and is available on a first come, first served basis. 

  • Equipment such as lifejackets and flutter boards will be sanitized after each class. 

Appropriate Bathing Attire

  • All participants using the pool must change from street clothes to a swim suit and/or clean clothing

  • Participants may choose to wear t-shirts, thin long sleeve shirts, shorts or tight fitting leggings. 

  • Clothing worn in the pool must permit individuals to participate safely in programs.

  • Head covering must be tight fitting and ensure the safety of the participant

  • Undergarments, cut-offs, jeans and loose clothing are not permitted in the pool

  • Shoes must be removed before entering the shower and pool deck

  • When swimmers not toilet-trained, specially designed swim diapers are required

  • Patrons wearing street clothes are only permitted to watch from the viewing area or outside the fenced area 

Cameras, Video Equipment and Cell Phones

  • The use of all cell phones and picture-taking equipment is prohibited in all changerooms, washrooms and on pool deck.

  • Picture taking is permitted of your own family member only, from the viewing area.

  • We do ask that anyone wishing to take pictures, obtains permission from the reception staff. This is to respect the privacy and safety of all patrons

Pool Rentals 

Having a birthday party and don't know what to do with the kids? Rent the Wiarton Pool!
Includes two lifeguards (maximum 50 participants) and use of equipment. Additional participants require additional lifeguards.

Per Hour: $95.00
Additional Lifeguard: $25.00/hour
*Liability insurance is required, and can be purchased through the Town 

Thunderstorms, Rain and Other Interruptions

  • In the event of thunder or lightning, there are no lessons for 30 minutes following the sound of thunder and 60 minutes following lightning.

  • In the event of a thunderstorm, you are welcome to call the pool to ask about the situation (519-534-0511).

  • In the event of pouring rain and we are unable to see the bottom of the pool, the pool will be closed.  Lessons will commence if it is raining and the bottom of the pool is visible. 

  • We are unable to reschedule group lessons missed due to thunderstorms, mechanical problems or necessary procedures (such as for pool fouling). Have your child use the washroom facilities prior to entering the pool and as needed throughout the swim, to prevent accidents in the pool

  • Contact the pool at 519-534-0511 to check on class status.

Refund, Transfer or Credit of Program Fees

Policy TR.1.2 - General 

  • Full payment of program fees required upon registration. 

  • All participant refunds or credits are subject to an administrative fee of $10.

  • No refund or credit will be issued once classes begin unless the absence is supported by a doctor's note.

Refunds
Refund requests are to be submitted to Town Hall staff. A refund will be issued under the following conditions:

  • When notice is provided to Town Staff at least fourteen (14) days prior to the program start date.

  • When a doctor's note is provided the refund is effective starting the date the doctor's note is received by Town Staff. 

  • If a program is cancelled by the Town or does not meet minimum number requirements. 

Transfers
Transfers are permitted when Town Hall staff is notified fourteen (14) days prior to the course or program start date, provided the revised program has not already started and there is participant space available.

Credits
Credit will be issued under the following conditions

  • When notice is provided to the Recreation Programmer less than fourteen (14) days prior to the program start date.
